In addition to the College Retention Policy found on the Policy & Code of Conduct page the PhD programs require:
Maintaining grades of a 3.00 overall GPA with no course receiving a grade below a “C” (3.0).
A student with a course grade below “B” (3.00) may repeat the course within one year or, if the course is not available within that period, the Coordinator may approve another course may be taken to offset the low grade. The repeated or alternative course is in addition to the semester hours required for the program. A grade of “B” (3.0) or higher must be earned on repeating the course or taking an alternative course to continue in the program.

Admission to the Ph.D. program is competitive. You will need to establish a connection with our faculty regarding your area of research interest. Once you have identified a suitable match, we highly recommend initiating the application process, which necessitates submitting a comprehensive application no later than December 1, 2023.
Applications for Fall 2024 will be available after September 1.
A complete application consists of these required materials:
● Online application.
● Pay the application fee:
○ $70: US Citizen, US Permanent Resident, In Application for Permanent Residency, DACA, International online student studying outside the U.S.
○ $115: International students on any non-immigrant visa type studying in the U.S. (e.g. F-1, H1-B, H-4, etc.).
● Official or unofficial transcripts: (must have completed a master’s degree before the start of the program)
● Three letters of recommendation. Requests for recommendations are not sent by ASU to the recommender until the application has been submitted and the application fee has been paid. Plan on a recommendation taking several days (at the earliest) to be submitted, received and posted to your application materials.
● Personal statement.
● Resume.
● Writing sample.
Application deadline is December 1.
Faculty Review from December through January, then proceed with campus visits.
Campus visits are in February.
Offer letter to admitted students in March and deadline for acceptance.
Final Deadline for admissions is April 15.
Session will become available starting in September after the application is available.
