The certificate in Environmental Education is available to students in any major and for nontraditional educators. The program is designed to establish standards for professional excellence in environment education as outlined by the North American Association for Environmental Education.
Environmental education is taught in traditional classrooms and in community-serving organizations such as nature centers, museums, parks and zoos. The coursework required increases the environmental literacy of future educators, fosters community leadership strategies and can provide opportunities to practice environmental education teaching methods.
This certificate requires a minimum of 15 credit hours, 12 of which much be upper division (300-400 level). A "C" or better is required in all coursework. This certificate is available for students attending ASU at Tempe, West Valley, or online.
