Hello! Below we have complied a list of expectations that students can rely on their advisors to meet, as well as expectations that advisors have for their students. These expectations are important to have in order to work together to reach their common goal of helping you (the student) cross the academic finish line!
Provide a supportive and safe environment that encourages students to share interests, activities, career goals, concerns, and/or request help navigating difficult situations
Help students learn how to connect with ASU and MLFC resources and guide them to prepare for questions to ask at their appointment(s).
Make referrals to the MLFC Student Success Team on behalf of the student
Provide guidance and tips for navigating college at ASU
Complete updates to planners and exceptions, as needed, in a timely manner
Create and explain graduation plans
Respond to emails/phone calls within 2 business days
Follow up with the student within 2 business days on tasks identified during appointments
Know your major (name of your major, basic degree information)
Read your DARS (degree audit report) and your major map
Fill out all fields on the appointment request so that your advisor can be fully prepared for your appointment
Understand what financial aid you are receiving and the requirements for each type of aid
Understand scholarship renewal requirements
Register for classes as soon as your registration window opens
Follow the academic plans provided to you by your advisor
Consult with your advising team before making changes to your academic plan
Know important dates and deadlines on the academic calendar
Check your final grades on MyASU (not Canvas)
Complete and submit petitions, as needed, in timely manner
Read ASU emails at least once per day; respond within 24 hours if necessary
