Why Meet with Advising?

Academic Advisors are here to help you succeed throughout your journey as an undergraduate student. When you are admitted as a student to Mary Lou Fulton College (MLFC), you are assigned to an advising team based on your degree program. Your advising team is dedicated to helping you navigate your college experience. Educational Studies, Early Childhood Studies, and Instructional Design majors are assigned to Team Thrive.

Before your appointment, feel free to check out our Educational Studies Student Site (for first time college students, check out our First Time Freshman page!) and jot down any questions you have. First appointments are held via Zoom and last about 30 minutes—be ready to share your screen, but no need to have your camera on. We looking forward to connecting with you!

Danielle Broderick

Academic Success Advisor

Hi there! I’m Danielle, one of the academic advisors for the Educational Studies non-certification programs here at ASU. I’ve been with the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College for over a year and love supporting students as they explore their academic path and goals. Originally from Nebraska (Go Big Red!) with a background in communications and clinical mental health counseling, I aim to support you both academically and personally. Whether you're feeling uncertain, excited, or overwhelmed, I’m here to help you navigate it all. I’m really looking forward to connecting with you!

Bethany Ortiz

Academic Success Advisor

Hello! I'm one of the Academic Success Advisors on Team Thrive at MLFC. In my role, I support students in achieving their academic and professional goals through a holistic, student-centered advising approach. My own academic journey began at a community college, where I earned an Associate of Arts degree. I then transferred to Northern Arizona University, where I completed a Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration. Outside of advising, I enjoy reading, experimenting in the kitchen, exploring the beautiful landscapes of Arizona, and getting creative with various crafts!

Jenna Tulonen

Hi, everyone! I'm Jenna, one of our MLFC Academic Success Advisors with Team Thrive. We are so excited that you're here! I heavily believe in holistic, student-centered advising, and am eager to support you academically, professionally, and personally. I graduated with my BAE in Educational Studies (with an emphasis in Family and Human Development) from MLFC, and am pursuing a master's program in Family and Human Development (with an emphasis in trauma-informed care in K-12 spaces). Outside of advising, I enjoy reading, scrapbooking, traveling, and musical theatre. Looking forward to connecting with you! Go Sun Devils!

Things to know when making an appointment

Please be detailed and specific in your note when scheduling an appointment with us. The more we know what you would like to discuss the more prepared we can be!
At the start of the appointment you may be asked to verify your ASU ID number, date of birth, and address so please have those ready to go.
If you need to cancel or reschedule, please do so ahead of time via your confirmation email.
To be extra prepared, run your graduation audit before the appointment. This can be accessed via your MyASU > My Programs > Click on your major > Graduation Audit (DARS) > Run Audit > Run Default Programs > View Audit. We will review this together!
If you're a new student, please review the New Student Checklist before our meeting.
