The Master of Arts program in Education is designed for professionals who want to advance their careers in the field of education to work with children, youth, and adults in formal or informal learning environments. Students will develop skills for effective communication, collaboration, leadership, advocacy, and innovation, all of which are essential to education professionals.
Students have the opportunity to customize their coursework in two ways.
Students can choose two of the following focal areas:
applied behavior analysis
autism spectrum disorders
early childhood education
education for planetary futures
environmental education
gifted education
global education
higher and postsecondary education
learning design and technologies
literacy education
physical activity and physical education
special education endorsement*
teaching pedagogy
*Students interested in the special education endorsement should speak to a graduate advisor before selecting this focal area, as it includes additional requirements.
Alternatively, students can choose one of the areas above and another area from a partner college at ASU:
data and society (New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences)
digital audience strategies (Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication)
social justice and human rights (New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences)
technical writing and communication (College of Integrative Sciences and Arts)
Undergraduate students typically receive approval to pursue the accelerated master's program during their junior year (75+ credit hours earned). Applicants for the accelerated program must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 in the last 60 hours of their bachelor's degree. Students who do not meet this requirement will need to meet with our advising team to discuss the next steps.
Students not yet in their junior year are encouraged to express their interest in the program to advisors as early as possible in their academic journey. This will allow our advising team to consider your interest in future courses and semesters and allow you to connect with the graduate team at the appropriate time.

Students accepted in the accelerated master's pathway for this program will need to submit the following for graduate admission in the final year of their undergraduate program:
Application
Personal Statement: Describe your background; in particular, the personal, educational, and/or professional experiences that led you to apply to the MA in Education program. Your statement should also address your goals for the degree, as the admission committee pays particular attention to the alignment of your goals with the program. The committee will also evaluate the quality of your writing and of the ideas expressed in your personal statement. Your statement should be approximately 500 words (two double-spaced pages) in an MS Word (.doc), Rich Text (.rtf), Portable Document Format (.pdf), or Text (.txt) file format.
Three professional references: Provide the names, email addresses and institutions or companies of individuals who will submit electronic letters of recommendation. They should be individuals who have worked with you in professional or academic capacities and who can attest to your aptitude in this field and your ability to succeed at graduate-level coursework.
Resume: Include relevant personal, professional, educational, and community activities (one to two pages). The resume should be prepared in an MS Word (.doc), Rich Text (.rtf), Portable Document Format (.pdf), or Text (.txt) file format.
