Your academic advisors are here to help you with class recommendations, to ensure you are making meaningful and consistent degree progress, and to provide you with resources. Your advising group is Team Thrive.
You may schedule an appointment by going to your MyASU > "Academic Support Team" box on the right-hand side > "Academic Advising" drop-down > Click on "Schedule an appointment". You may also use the resources on the Academic Advising page here.
It is important to know that your Enrollment Coaches and Success Coaches are NOT Academic Advisors. Please connect with advising at least once per semester to ensure you are taking the correct classes for your major. For a helpful breakdown of differences between Enrollment/Success Coaches and Advisors, please visit the question on the FAQ page titled "What is the difference between my enrollment coach, my academic advisor, and my success coach?".
You may view specific date breakdowns via the official ASU Academic Calendar, which you can access by clicking here.
Each session of classes will have corresponding add, drop, and withdrawal dates. You may view these on the Academic Calendar. To understand the differences between dropping and withdrawing, please visit this page.
With ASUOnline, you will likely take the majority of your courses during Fall/Spring A and B sessions. Session A refers to the first 7.5 weeks of the semester, while Session B refers to the second set of 7.5 weeks. To be full-time you would enroll in two courses per session. Part-time enrollment would be one course per session.
The 7.5 week ASU Online courses are accelerated, and as such it is recommended that students plan to spend an average of 18 hours per 3 credit class on coursework. To break it down even further, for each credit a student takes they can expect to spend six hours per week on classwork. For more information, visit this page.
For additional assistance with dropping /withdrawing, understanding dates, and signing up for courses please reach out to MLFTCThrive@asu.edu.
Before enrolling in courses, connect with advising for class recommendations. You can schedule an appointment by using the Academic Advising Tab.
For course recommendations, reach out to your advising team. Depending on your course load preference, advisors will help you build a schedule of courses to ensure you are meeting program requirements and are on the best path toward graduation.
Once you are all set with courses they will show up on your MyASU in the "My Classes" box (see the example image to the right). You can click on the maroon "View My Schedule" button for more class information such as instructor names, start/end dates, and textbook information.
With the ASU DARS or Degree Audit Reporting System, you can easily track your real-time degree progress and determine whether you’re on track toward graduation.
You may access this tool via your MyASU > My Programs > Graduation Audit (DARS). From there, click on "Run Audit" > "Run Default Programs" > "View Audit"
What you should know about the DARS:
Programs require a minimum of 120 credit hours overall, including at least 45 upper division credit hours. Please note that you must also meet all major requirements (and minor if applicable), which may put you past the 120 minimum. If you have questions about this, meet with your advising team.
Your audit will list classes needed for your major and minor (if applicable) that must be completed to meet graduation requirements.
Your DARS will reflect how your transfer work applies to your degree requirements.
Your advisor will walk you through your audit and explain the various sections.

Verify via your syllabus which textbooks are required for your classes. To buy or rent your textbooks you may use the ASU Bookstore. You may also look up the required textbook by using the ISBN in an internet search if needed.
The best place to find textbook information is your class syllabus. However, you also can find textbook information via your MyASU account by going to the "My Classes" button and clicking on the maroon "View My Schedule" button.
You will then be taken to a page with a box that contains a detailed view of your courses and a box with textbook info below that is labeled "Textbooks for (semester)". The textbook info box contains information regarding textbooks that may be required for each specific course. We recommend double-checking your syllabus though!
Some textbooks and materials are automatically provided to you digitally via Canvas and will be charged to your account. You will know if this is the case by checking the textbook info box.
If you need to complete a math course with ASU to meet degree requirements, you will have to first complete the ALEKS Math Assessment.
To enroll in the minimum math requirement for our majors, you will need to score between 0-60.
The password to access the assessment is ARIZONASTATE1
