Overview
This program prepares students in building critical skills to design quality online learning platforms for a variety of organizations in professional and organizational settings. Students learn to meet the needs of learners by using technology effectively and developing and reviewing educational structures. Courses focus on designing learning environments, systems, applications, and instructional materials that are implemented into real-world applications through internship experience. This program is for students seeking to design instructional technology platforms specifically curated toward online learning for roles in higher education, organizations, and corporate settings.
Students must have a working laptop or desktop with web camera technology and sufficient high-speed internet to engage in the courses. Tablets or mobile devices will not be sufficient to complete the required coursework.
Please note that this program is not a teacher-certified program. Students will need to connect with their state's department of education to find an alternative pathway to teacher certification if that is their goal.
This program is also available as a minor.
Internship
This program requires an internship that students will complete toward the end of their final year. Students will create and present a project that demonstrates their knowledge of instructional design obtained in previous courses by applying it in a professional context. Students will search for an organization to work with, identify an instructional need, problem, or performance gap. They then will develop and deploy a solution that delivers in an online or blended format. The internship courses must follow a specific course progression as required by our faculty.
