Our Enhanced Provision at Mackie forms part of Stonehaven Cluster’s commitment to promoting Inclusion. Learners will be referred via Aberdeenshire Education’s Staged Approach to Assessment and Intervention. The Junior (S1-3) and Senior (S4-6) Enhanced Provision classes help to provide a continuum of support for our young people offering the opportunity to access a flexible support structure and make appropriate use of both mainstream opportunities and targeted, specialist support. Learning and Teaching encompasses Broad and General Education as well as Senior phase experiences leading to a variety of SQA awards and qualifications and ultimately, positive destinations for our learners. We offer flexibility within the curriculum and, where necessary, adjustments to the learning environment, approaches to learning and teaching and other flexible support arrangements in line with learners' IEP goals.
Our referral process in consultation with our Primary colleagues, associated professionals and parents, ensures a carefully planned, bespoke experience for each young person.
Once a learner has been identified as requiring Enhanced Provision, our EP Transition will generally begin towards the end of P6 (but may be earlier) with a programme of staff visits to primary school, after school (quiet) learner and Parent visit to Mackie Academy, followed by carefully planned learner visits to our Enhanced Provision learning areas with short activity sessions. Learners are then invited to a lunch time session and further extended visits. These experiences will look different for each young person depending on their requirements. Learners will also participate in the general P7/S1 transition, usually culminating in a week-long visit to Mackie, following their S1 timetable.
US Time
EP Learners start each day together before beginning their timetabled classes. Our Us Time activities include Quiz time, Yoga, Talking Dice, News and Games.
Formed around attending mainstream subjects that they enjoy or from which they will gain the most positive learning experiences which support their IEP Goals.
EP staff deliver lessons in a wide range of subjects including English, Maths, HE, RMPS, Social Subjects , Health & Wellbeing, French and Science.
Learners are encouraged to use all forms of communication to support expression and understanding. We work closely with Speech and Language Therapists.
Independence/Life skills
Learners are encouraged to be as independent as possible within a supported and structured environment.
Technology can support many types of learning difficulties and make the education experience better for both the learner and the teacher. We deliver lessons to encourage Learners to use assistive technology in their learning.
