Why assistive technology?
Many types of learning difficulties can be addressed with the use of assistive technology (AT) during lessons and home study to support with listening, reading, writing, maths and organisation.
Assistive technology can give learners the independence to learn and increase participation, in an environment that allows them to use their strengths to overcome their challenges.
Examples of tools to assist learning can include:
Text-to-speech readers
Phonetic spellers
Digital worksheets
Audio recorders and players
Writing supports
Graphic organizers
Technology Checklists for learners with dyslexia, autistic spectrum conditions and other additional needs. These checklists provide useful information and links to help learners and staff identify and explore technology to address specific needs using Windows, ChromeOS and IPad.
'The aim of the Inclusive Digital Learning and Assistive Technology Staged Intervention is to help us think about what learners require to ensure that they are included and can access digital learning, and who is responsible for supporting them.'
