Welcome to Practicum Education 2024-25

Generalist Foundation Year and Advanced Standing Students!  

We are excited to be part of your first year (and final year for Advanced Standing students) of practicum placement at APU! To prepare for a successful and safe experience, all students new to APU MSW Practicum Education must complete ALL the items in the New Practicum Education Student Checklist below to start internships in the Fall semester. 

Completion of the Canvas course and attendance of the practicum orientation by the stated due dates below will earn practicum hour credit (TOTAL 13.5 hours).

Hours completed by the deadline below may be recorded in your Fall Semester Time Log in IPT (Week 0) with your Practicum Faculty Liaison and Practicum Instructor's approval. Late submissions will not earn practicum hours. If not approved by your Practicum Instructor, please record those hours in the Additional Time Log in IPT for internal tracking.

New Practicum Education Student Checklist

August 1: Purchase Professional Liability Insurance

All students in practicum are required to purchase their student professional liability insurance. Click HERE for more info.

August 15: Pre-Practicum Canvas Course Online Training Modules (10 Hours)

Links to the Canvas course are emailed to your APU email before July 15th. Please contact one of the Practicum Faculty if you have not received the link or are having difficulty accessing the Canvas course. Please save your certificate of completion for your records (you may be asked to show proof of some of the training in the future).

August 15: Confirm Attendance for the New Practicum Student Orientation 

All students new to practicum (AZ and IE campus GFY and Advanced Standing students) are required to attend this in-person training on Saturday, August 17, 2024 from 9:00am - 12:30pm.  Confirm attendance by ACCEPTING your calendar invite that was sent to your APU email from swpracticum@apu.edu.

August 17 at 9:00am-12:30pm: Attend the New Practicum Student Orientation (3.5 Hours) 

All students new to practicum (AZ and IE campus GFY and Advanced Standing students) are required to attend this in-person training from 9:00am - 12:30pm.

All students entering practicum are required to sign the following forms using their APU login by clicking on the links below.

1) MSW Statement of Student Understanding (after reading 2024-25 Practicum Education Manual): Available at the Orientation
