Baltimore Semester
Living & Learning International
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
APU partners with Living and Learning International (LLI), who hosts the Baltimore Urban Studies Program, designed to teach, mentor, and train college students in spiritual formation and public health while providing urban global health internships. Baltimore, Maryland is a dynamic and culturally rich city that represents the tension of the intersection between historic abandonment and revitalization.
During this semester study away program, students gain hands-on experience and a deeper understanding of how their major can create a lasting impact on the community around them. Students develop a new perspective on urban life as they experience serving in Baltimore!

LLI INTERNSHIP
The Baltimore Urban Studies Program includes a built-in internship opportunity where students will participate in 120-480 hours of internship work in community health clinics and agencies in Baltimore. The Urban Public Health course accompanied by the internship provides a seminar-based model of learning for students to process and gain constructivist learning from their three months of individualized internship experiences through academic readings, seminar discussions, and reflective writing assignments.
Students will need to seek advising from their APU academic department's internship coordinator if they are interested in receiving APU credit for their LLI internship. Students will need to request this information in advance and are responsible for starting the process.
APU REQUIREMENTS
APU prerequisites are mandatory.
Students must maintain full-time enrollment status (minimum 12 credits).
Select only courses that are connected to your APU degree in order to maintain all financial aid.
Students are not allowed to take APU online courses unless designated in program elective offerings.
Students are automatically enrolled in APU's GLBL 425 course the semester AFTER the program.
Registration is all through your APU Account. Upon acceptance, students will be granted access to register for study away sections of the courses.
TRANSFER CREDIT & COURSE SUBSTITUTION
Students will need to complete a Transfer Credit & Course Substitution (TCCS) Form to transfer course credit and/or internship credit to APU credits.
A TCCS Form will be required for courses not already approved by APU. Submitted forms go through all academic required departments and results (approvals or denials) are emailed back to students. Results from the TCCS process must be obtained prior to departure so you only take courses that count towards your degree. Keep the results so you have proof of how your program courses will count once you complete them.

APU Institutional Aid includes aid such as President's/Dean's/Provost's/Director's/Founder's/M.E.L. scholarships, Fac/Staff Award, Honors/APU Grants, etc. Since students are going to a non-APU program, APU Institutional Aid cannot be used. In recognition of the financial challenges this creates, APU has agreed to charge students the lower program tuition cost instead of APU tuition. “My academic journey was greatly impacted by my study away experience! I loved the opportunity to learn in an unconventional classroom and then participate in the things we learned throughout the community. I am very thankful to have had professors who cared about me and loved me deeply. Studying and growing in knowledge as a family is something I have never quite experienced before. The concepts we learned in Community Development are things that have carried over in the way I view the world.”
