Study Away Announcements

All APU study away-related decisions will be posted here on this page. Please access the announcement below for the most recent decisions regarding study away programs. Learn more about APU’s response to COVID-19.

2/25/22 - APU Study Away Update

In light of the challenges related to enrollment and budget, staff hiring freeze, and ongoing realities of the COVID pandemic, the Office of the Provost has made difficult decisions regarding academic study away programs for the 2022-23 academic year. A limited number of semester student seats and approved short-term faculty-led programs (GO Terms) will be available. Although we hope to resume more robust semester study away opportunities for students, the pandemic must significantly shift and enrollment must stabilize. At this time, all seats for semester study-away programs Fall 2022 and Spring 2023 have been filled.

11/9/21 - APU Study Away Update

As APU leadership continues to closely monitor the COVID-19 pandemic, the safety of our students, staff, and faculty remains our primary concern. University study away participation continues to be evaluated by program and by location/term. In lieu of ongoing changes related to travel and COVID-19, study away semester participation for Spring 2022 will require COVID-19 vaccination. Documentation will be required for airlines, program hosts, and/or location-specific government requirements for arrival and/or departure to return. Any expenses incurred by a participant relating to unforeseen quarantining, not through regular programming are at the expense of the participant.

Limited capacity is available for Spring 2022 for the following approved semester programs and is subject to change due to CDC and/or US Department of State updated information.

  1. LLI: Ecuador - Financial Aid Group 1 Placement available on a first-come, first-served basis

  2. CCCU GlobalEd: United Kingdom (Oxford) - No financial aid placements remaining for Spring 2022

  3. CCCU GlobalEd: American Studies Program - Financial Aid Group 2 Placements Available

Decisions regarding APU faculty-led programs for summer 2022 are being discussed. The study away team will continue to maintain the study away websites with up-to-date information.

Sincerely,

The Study Away Team

8/13/21 - APU Study Away Update

As APU leadership continues to closely monitor the COVID-19 pandemic, the safety of our students, staff, and faculty remains our primary concern. APU has decided that all university-sponsored study away participation will be on a case-by-case basis. Decisions for Spring 2022 university-sponsored study away opportunities (both semester and GO Term programs) will be made mid-way through the Fall 2021 term.

If you are interested in studying away, it is best to plan ahead for a study away experience alongside your advisor, who can assist in planning your degree through completion with or without a study away program. It is best to plan for both in the event that study away continues to be delayed.

Please reach out to your academic department if your academic plan is dependent on a study away program. They can provide announcements and updates as appropriate.

The Study Away team will continue to maintain the Study Away websites with up-to-date information.

Sincerely,

The Study Away Team

3/26/21 - APU Study Away Update

APU's partner in South Africa (APIEF) has been a gracious host and significant resource in connecting APU students with long-lasting relationships that have been built among community partners, faculty, hospitals, local churches, and remarkable staff members since 2007. As a result of the pandemic, travel still remains unknown, and like so many other study away programs nationwide, APIEF has made the difficult decision to close their program in South Africa. Although this may not come as a surprise, it is certainly disappointing.

At this point, APU travel through August has been canceled. However, for those students that continue to be interested in studying away, we look forward to offering you new opportunities when it is safe to do so. APU remains deeply committed to global learning both here and abroad, and we hope to reconnect with our valued partners in the near future.

5/15/20 - APU Study Away Update

The Center for Career & Community Engaged Learning's number one priority has been the safe return home of Spring 2020 students. Our study away team worked with our program partners to coordinate the return of our study away students. Our team is supporting students through their transitions and completion of the spring semester.

As a result of the increasingly unpredictable changes due to COVID-19, and the necessary safety of the global community and students, APU has suspended all domestic and international study-away programs for Spring 2020. APU has also canceled all of its current APU GO Terms for the remainder of the 2019-2020 academic year.

At this time, we do not anticipate any changes to our fall 2020 study away programs. The fall 2020 APU Study Away semester programs and GO Terms will remain open and operational.

The APU Study Away office is always available to address any questions or concerns you may have. Please email studyaway@apu.edu.
