This week second graders created and tested out their solar ovens. They collected data on the temperature and tried to melt some chocolate!
Today second graders did an experiment to see how shredded and flat materials retained heat. They checked the temperature of containers filled with aluminum, foam, felt, plastic, or newspaper.
Second grade students expanded on their ideas around heating and cooling today by creating thermometers. They were very excited to see the thermometers actually changing!
Students learned about the three states of matter and how their structures are different. They used Fruit Loops to represent a solid, a liquid, and a gas.
Second graders were introduced to solids, liquids, and gases by watching a demonstration of gas "blowing off the top" from mixing solid baking soda and liquid vinegar. They then brainstormed questions related to what they observed.
