The art residency with Aki Shibata concluded today with students working on their macroinvertebrate drawings. They used photographs off the Atlas of Common Freshwater Macroinvertebrates site as their source. Look for their final sketches at the STEM in Action Fair!
Fourth graders worked with Aki Shibata from the Science Museum of Minnesota on an art residency this week. They started with making observations of natural materials and making gesture and contour drawings.
Students took a trip to Rice Lake today to investigate macroinvertebrates, or lake-dwelling insects that are large enough to see without a microscope. They made observations and developed questions related to the traits of the macros they caught.
Fourth graders continued their investigation into trait inheritance. In this activity, they used traits from "cootie" parents to determine what the cootie offspring would look like.
