Building Shake Test

This is the learning target for this project.

Designing

For our unit in earthquakes, we we tasked to design an earthquake proof building out of straws, string, paperclips, tape and other materials. Me and Henry decided to make our building a trianglar pyramid with three sides. We would use trusses to reinforce it, and to make sure it could hold the weight of two small sandbags.

Building

After a few days of building, this is what we ended up with. We have done a few small shake tests, and it can hold the sandbags well. They are secure during shake tests, and the building holds up.

Pre-Shake Reflection

Before the shake test, we reflected on the building process.

Post Shake Reflection

The shake test went different from what we expected. The first floor that held one of the sandbags collapsed, but the building held up with no sandbags. This is what the building looked like after the small and big shake tests. >
