The purpose of the arcade project is to learn to connect the digital world with the real world through programming and woodworking.
Before we make the arcade, we have to learn how to use Make Code, which is the tool we will be using to make the arcade games. After completing a beginner skill map and practicing a bit more, I'm ready for another one.
Next, I try a more advanced one. After a little bit, it's completed.
After we're confident that we can make good games, the next step is to make a cutmap. We will use this to cut the wood for the arcade.
For my next assignment, I chose to synthesize the tutorials Chase the Pizza and Lemon Leak. I made a game where you collect fruits to gain HP and try to survive for as long as you can.
Simon suggested that I add more detail to the tilemap and add another way to score so I did that.
The next step is to start making the arcade machine. In this picture, I am drilling a hole to use a jigsaw to cut out the wood.
I had the idea to create a game called Plane Fighter. In the game, you launch off an aircraft carrier and fight the enemy planes.
After lots of work, the game play is done. After adding the intro to the game, it's done.
Reflection:
I am very happy with my game. I think it is very fun to play.
When I started this project, I barely knew how to code with MakeCode. Now, I am confident making fun games.
Some advice I would give to future students is to try to make a game that is unique and fun.
If I had more time, I would have tried to fix the plane selecting mechanism, but I had to scrap it for lack of time.
