In my children's book, Jacob moves from Mexico and starts at a new elementary school. No one wants to play with Jacob at recess, and someone trips him at lunch. Someone named Daniel helps him clean up the mess and they become friends. They agree to hang out after school.
Guiding Questions:
"Why do people move?" "Why is it important to learn other people's story?" "How do cultural elements like language, religion, or place influence someone's identity?"
My book connects to the guiding question "Why do people move?" because Jacob's family most likely moved to a new place to make more money and have more opportunities.
From creating my children's book, I learned that children's books are not as easy as they look to make. A unique story requires a lot of thought to be enjoyable and appropriate for children.
If I had more time, I would have liked to make a better ending for the story. I would have also liked to make the drawings a bit better quality.
For this project there was the option to work with a group, but I decided to work on my own. I got all the work done that I wanted to, but if I did the project again I would want someone to work with to get things done faster.
