5th grade students will get an introduction to the engineering design process. Generally, students are given an engineering challenge in which they have to design, build, test, and refine the solution by following the engineering design process. Students will be using mostly hand tools and will progress to some basic power tools; ie. the drill press and band saw.

Throughout the process of engineering design, middle school students are able to work safely with hand and/or power tools, various materials and equipment, and other resources.
