6th Grade Health

Class Overview

 6th Grade Health covers a variety of topics that build on  the overarching theme of wellness . Wellness is the overall balance of physical, mental/emotional and social health. Students will begin the semester by creating a personal wellness goal that each student will work on for the semester.  Stress and stress management will be introduced, focusing on healthy ways reduce stress that include deep breathing, exercise, mindfulness and relaxation techniques. The objective for all students is to begin to develop healthy coping strategies to reduce stress and anxiety. The Conflict Resolution Unit is learning strategies that promote peaceful problem solving through the use of communication skills to create understanding and work towards win-win solutions.  Growth and Development is the unit that covers puberty and understanding how the wellness is impacted during this time of change into young adults. Throughout the semester, each topic weaves  wellness to build on the understanding of how  stress, conflict, and puberty one's health. Projects, journals, role playing are all used to reinforce the skills being taught.

Social and Emotional Learning: CASEL is a site that tells about the five areas of Social and Emotional Learning for both parents and students.
