5th Grade Art
Overview:
It is our intention that the art knowledge, skills and techniques that students acquire during their first year at AMS will provide a solid foundation for the subsequent years of school and beyond. In the first weeks of school the students develop their drawing skills through a series of still life drawing sessions and work from their imagination. We will engage in activities that promote self discovery and developing connections with peers.
The bulk of the 5th grade art curriculum affords students the opportunity to create a series of art projects based on the seven Elements of Art (line, shape, value, form, texture, space, and color). Some of the projects students can look forward to include; a Vincent Van Gogh inspired shoe drawing, a submission for the Federal National Duck Stamp competition, and a study of the mathematics and science of snowflake design.

Endorsement of the Junior Duck Stamp Contest by Grade 5 student, Leo Oakes through an environmental statement:
"There are so many amazing species out there that would be a crushing blow if they died out. Ducks are such an amazing marvel of nature in particular, so I think the Duck Stamp Competition is an amazing competition. Aspiring youth artists can put their skills to work for a worthy purpose! I am entering this competition so that ducks have an environment to thrive in. It's important to conserve the environment because if we trash it, it might not turn out too well for us either. Trees give us oxygen, sooo.... yeah. As you can see, saving the environment is important. "
