6th Grade Art

Overview:

The 6th Grade Art Curriculum seeks to build and expand upon the skills students have developed in their 5th grade year. We will be focusing on projects that help students to expand upon a theme and begin to develop and make their own artistic choices. Thus, assignments will provide a variety of visual art challenges while encouraging personalization and self-expression. Some of the concepts and projects you can expect students to be working on include: a two-point perspective drawing, a variation on the theme and styles presented in Rene Magritte’s “The Happy Donor”, a mixed media, positive and negative space drawing, a weaving and textile unit, a 3D ceramic and Sculpey clay piece, and a trip to Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts with a social studies connection.

These assignments will help to further develop the breadth of our students’ work and build upon their foundation in Elements of Design by introducing more Principles of Design and promoting individualism and ownership of artistic skills.

** assignments are subject to change based on which model students will be engaged in.
