Hello All You Amazing Kids,

I hope you had a happy Tuesday and some of you are looking forward to the Google Meets today and Tomorrow. I look forward to talk to you. Let's get started with our day!

Mountain Language #11-15

You should have be done with #1-10 already, If you haven't done those, you can get caught up now. You can use the Mountain Language paper from last week if you still have it. The Mountain Language Poster is in the top corner of the screen!

Mini Lesson on Verbs

Today we are going to revisit verbs. Remember that verbs are the action words. It tells what the person, place, or thing (Noun) is doing. Here is the definition of a Verb: A verb is a main part of speech that is often used to describe or indicate an action. Sentences are not complete without a verb. Here are some examples: jog, stop, hear, call, explore, jump, run, cook, fall, and believe..Let's take a look at a couple of videos that will remind you about verbs and remind you what a noun is.

Hopefully that song helps you remember what an action verb is. Action verbs tell what the nouns do. They help make the sentence complete. In a sentence you need to have someone or something doing something. A Noun and a Verb are what each sentence needs to be complete. Now lets take a look at the Verb Worksheet that was in this weeks packet.

On this work sheet you are going to read each sentence and underline the Verb (The Action Word). Then you will find the underlined word in the word search. Let's look at the first sentence on the side where the girl is holding a paper that has a number one on it. It says, "Sue sings great in the play." Well since a noun is a person, place, or thing we can see that there are two nouns in the sentence. Sue is a person and a play is a thing. We need to find which noun is doing the action. Is Sue doing the action or is it the play? It is Sue who is doing the action. What is Sue doing? She is singing in the play so the word sing would be the verb in that sentence. You would underline sing and then try to find it in the word search. # 2 says, "Bob read the letter." What is the action word? read is the action word. Who or what is doing the action? Is the letter reading or is Bob? Bob is the one who read so he would be the noun. What did Bob do? he read, so read would be the action word or the verb. That is what we need to underline. Now look for read in the word search. Now do the rest yourself. There are two sides to the paper, do both sides. When you are done get out your reading packet (The Tortoise and the Eagle). You are going to do page 26 which is the back of the questions you answered yesterday and looks like this....

This is a crossword puzzle. Find the words in the word box that makes each sentence complete. Remember it needs to make sense. Fill out the missing word in each sentence. For example #1 Down says, "An ____________ is a bird." If I look in the word box, I can see that out of those words the only bird would be an eagle. I would write eagle in the blank. Now you can keep filling in the words until you have them all or you can put the word eagle in the crossword puzzle. If you want to put it in the puzzle before you go onto the next sentence, you would go to the #1 and write the word eagle in the boxes going down from #1. You put one letter in each box. Doing it this way can help you figure out the other words. I can see that #4 across has 8 letters and the 6th letter is going to be an e from the last letter of eagle. So I could find the word that is 8 letters long and has an e as the 6th letter....feathers is 8 letters long and has an e as the 6th letter. I could go to #4 across and see if it would make sense to put feathers in the blank of this sentence. #4 says, "___________ covers the outside of a bird." Do feathers cover the outside of the bird? Yes, so you would know that #4 across is the word feathers. You can do whichever way works best for you. Finish up the crossword puzzle and get your poem book out. You are going to do the poem about Cinco De Mayo, since that was yesterday. Only write it once though. I just can't get it to shrink down to only one copy.

Okay, I hope your enjoyed your morning. We did a lot. Don't forget to go read for 20-30 minutes today, but you can do this as part of Library during specialty time if you want.. We will be back to doing Math in 15 minutes if your parents say its okay to take a 15 minute break. I hope you get up and walk around and get your hearts moving. Get some energy so that your brain is ready for the Math Block.

GO MATH BOOK

CHAPTER 10

Well good news students, your parents should be bringing home your Number of the day and your word problem book. Today you should be doing #162. Only 16 more days of school!!! You can start where you left off and fill in your number of the day for the days you are behind or just pick a blank page and start with #162. Show your parents how you do it.

For your word problem book you can just find the next Wednesday in the week you have started and keep going from there.

Before we get our Go Math Books out, if you haven't done the Shapes Math Test I would like you to get that out of your packet and do that. Have your parents correct it and get me the scores. The Shape Test looks like this. If you already took the test, get your Go Math Book out.

Now we are going to move on to Chapter 10.6. Go to page 489-492. These are story problems.

On page 489, we would read the story problem and then figure out what information we are trying to find. We want to find how the amount of rainfall changed from September to December. We are going to use the information in the green box that tells us how much rain fell during each of those months. We are going to fill out the bar graph using this information. Since we are talking about rainfall we would put Rainfall as our title on the top line of the bar graph. Along the side it is showing numbers and these are the Amount of rainfall in inches. Notice they have already filled that in for you. Look at the bottom and those are the months that the rain fell so we can put Months on the line or Months Rain Fell. Now we need to put the bars in the graph. In September 4 inches fell so we would fill in four of the boxes. In October 3 inches fell so we would fill in three boxes. In November only 2 inches fell so we would fill in.....2 boxes. Finally, in December only 1 inch fell so we would fill in 1 box. Now looking at the bar graph what can we say happened to the rainfall over the four months? It looks like the rainfall decreased or was 1 inch less than the month before. It decreased by one inch every month. You would write a sentence like that on the line that says, "The amount of rainfall______________"

Now on page 490 we are going to do the same thing. Read the story problem and see what they are wanting to find out. We want to find out how the height of the plant changed from May 1 to May 22. What is the information we need to use? It would be the information in the orange chart, which is how many inches did the plant grow from week to week. On the title we could put something like Plant Growth. Along the side we see numbers so this would probable be the inches the plant grew so a good label would be amount of inches. Down along the bottom of the graph we see the different week in May so our label could be Weeks or Weeks in May. Once we have everything labeled we can start putting in the bars for the bar graph. Look at the information in the orange box. It shows that May 1st the plant was 2 inches high, so we are going to fill in two boxes above May 1. Now on May 8th, the plant was 3 inches high, so we need to fill in three boxes above the words May 8. On May 15th the plant was 5 inches tall, so we would fill in five boxes above the words May 15. Finally on May 22nd, it shows that the plant was 7 inches so we would fill in 7 boxes above May 22. Now looking at the bar graph what can we tell about the height of the plant? The height of the plant grew every week. The first week it grew 1 inch and then each week after that the plant grew 2 inches each week. On the line we can put all that information or just say that the plant grew at least an inch or two each week. You will be doing the next two pages on your own. You may need to ask your parents for help or have them look over your answers.

On page 491 you need to try and fill out the information on the bar graph using the information they have given you in the word problem and in the blue box. Don't forget to come up with a title and labels for the side on bottom blue lines. Then write a sentence telling what you were able to find out using the bar graph. Also, on #3 you will want to add another week to your chart, week 5 and fill in the information on the bar graph and then answer the question.

Use the information to fill in the bar graph and answer the questions. Here is a video that might help you do page 233.

On Page 492 it is kind of confusing. The lengths of the string in inches are what the numbers are showing, so if you are trying to find out how many strings are 9 inches you would go over to where the number 9 is and count the X's about number 9. For the hot problem you are trying to find out how many strings are more than 6 inches long. You will count all the X's above the 7, the 8, and the 9 and add them together to get your answer. Don't forget to do the test prep. Then go on to the Practice pages 233 & 234.

Okay before you go to specialty today you need to do one of your review pages that was in your packet. I'm going to have you do this one. Don't forget if there is more on the floor you go next door, for subtraction. Draw your double TT's if it helps. Do the other side as well that is the Triple Digit Addition, don't forget that if it is 10 or more to take the limo over. If you need help, ask your parents.

Now finally it is time to go have fun with Library time. Get on and check some of those Library sites. https://sites.google.com/d/1iYFOm7cBz1FiCcZ1X_iz36GRF-bl2-8d/p/1iaxSKjRHw70-zEScJnKvdrLd49Wp8LiI/edit or do your 20-30 minutes of reading. Don't forget to come back to do the writing block and another gift for your mom for Mother's Day.

Animal Report

Okay, hopefully by now you have picked your animal that you are doing your animal report on and you filled out the first page of the packet that tells me why you chose this animal. What do you like about them. Now you are going to work on #2 which is the babies. I want you to get as much information as you can about your animal as a baby. Fill out this paper of your packet. Don't just guess at the answer, you need to look up the information. Try and get as many cool and interesting facts that most people wouldn't know about you animal. That is what makes the best reports.... Lots of details and facts!!!

Here are a list of websites that have great information about animals. Make sure you ask your parents first though before going onto any new websites. YouTube has a lot of great videos as well that will teach you about your animal but make sure you check with your parents. Remember you are wanting to become an expert on you animal. You need to research and write down interesting information. You will be making a poster that will include some of this information so be on the look out for great pictures you might want for your poster. Okay, go find out what you can about your baby animal and come back so we can do one of the Mother's Day gifts.

Okay Mom's Hide Your Eyes

I'm just going to keep it short and sweet today because we have been doing a lot. Today you can work on your All About Mom Poster that was rolled up in the bag and also make your Mother's Day Card and maybe cut out the big heart with the poem on it.

You can either cut out the heart and write on the back of it all the things you love about your mom.....Or you can leave it like that and write the reasons you love your mom all the way around it. You can color the heart and make it pretty.

I don't have a copy of the All About Mom Chart but fill it out and color the pictures. Make it something special. Then don't forget to hide all these things away until Sunday!!!

Your card may have something different on it but cut along the outside dark black lines. You should have a rectangle shape. Fold your card in half the hamburger way. The picture should be on the outside. Now write a nice message to your mom and wish her Happy Mother's Day. You can color the out side or add some more pictures to the outside and inside of the card. Don't forget to thank your mom for all she does for you.

Have a great day. I will talk to you again tomorrow.
