Happy Monday Morning Everyone,

I hope you all enjoyed your weekend. Did you do anything fun? I was so happy to see most of you on Friday at the Parade. I miss you all so much!!! I hope to see you all soon. This is the last week for Wonders so we better get started.

Mountain Language #1-5

You should have one of these papers in your packet. You can use the one from last week if you still have it. The Mountain Language Poster is in the top corner of the screen!

Vocabulary Words

Next we are going to work on our Vocabulary Words. I know how much you love these. We only have this week and we will be done with the Wonders Vocabulary Words. Watch the video below and remember that you will be doing the Vocabulary Worksheet after this. Don't forget to say the word three times to help you remember it.

That's your last time with Wonders Vocabulary Cards. You did great!!! Since I forgot to print out these worksheets, you will have to have your parents print one out or you can copy the whole sentence on a piece of paper and put in the correct vocabulary word as you write.

Spelling Words

Remember to go over your spelling words. Try and find a way to study them every day so that you are ready for the Spelling Test on Friday. This will be your last set of Wonders Spelling Words.

Interactive Story Cards Video

Now it's on to the Interactive Story Cards. This week we are learning Poems. Remember with poems you want to try and visualize what the author is talking about. Poems usually will tell you how an author feels about a certain subject. In the first poem the author talks about how the girl plays an imagination game with a box. In the second poem the author is telling you what the sounds the different instruments make reminds them of things in nature. Can you imagine the things the two authors are talking about? Can you picture them in your mind?

Tri-Fold

Don't forget to do the first section of your trifold that is in your packet. You will be doing the section marked Spelling Phonics. Get out your crayons or colored pencils. Color in the words with the colored pencil or crayon that follow the spelling pattern. Words with er color blue, words with or color yellow, and words with ar color pink. Words that don't follow the pattern- the other words color them green.

Reading Time

Okay everyone, you did the morning word work. Way to go. Now its time to read for 20 to 30 minutes. Find a nice quiet spot, your favorite book, and maybe a stuffed animal or two and Read, Read, Read!!! If it is okay with your parents you can go to our reading page and do one of the reading programs there instead but make sure you are reading the stories too. Here is the link to the Second Grade Reading Page. This has links to Lexia, Scholastic, Storyline Online, and Raz-Kids as well as some other stories Ms. Halladay thought you might enjoy.

GO MATH BOOK

CHAPTER 11

Welcome back students!! I hope you got to have a little break. If we were at school you would be doing your Number Of The Day Book and your Word Problem Book. Today would be #156. Only 22 more days of school!!! I haven't sent those books home yet but I have told your parents they can come and get them this week if they would like. If you've got a piece of paper you can do #150 on that. Show your parents how you do it. Don't forget to write include the following information.... (example is for #122) Remember you need to do it for #156.

Standard Form (Number Way) Picture Form Word Form Expanded Form

122 D II : One Hundred Twenty Two 100 + 20 + 2

(H) undreds/ (T) ens/ (O) nes Even or Odd 132 Ten More 222 One Hundred More

1 Hundred 2 Tens 2 Ones Even 112 Ten Less 22-One Hundred Less

Write 4 math problems that equal the number of the day...Examples: 11+11=22, 24-2=22, 55-33=22, 20+2=22

Don't forget to do your number of the day for 156. Here is a word problem that you can figure out as well....

Ella has 4 one-dollar bills, 3 quarters and 5 dimes. Logan has 1 five-dollar bill and 1 nickel. Who has more money?

You are going to have to go to figure out how much each person has. Now get out your GO Math Book. We are still on Chapter 11 in the Go Math Book but we will finish up this week. Today it is page 545-548. These are story problems using fractions. Here is a video that might help you with these word problems.

Now let's take a look at Page 545 & 546. I will help you with these two pages. Pages 545 & 546 should look like the pages below.

On page 545, we are trying to find out how the two sandwiches could each be cut differently into 4 equal pieces or fourths. What is the information that you need to use. We know that there are 2 sandwiches, so put the number 2 on the small line. Each sandwich is divided into fourths or 4 equal pieces. You can write fourths or 4 equal pieces on the line. Now think of some ways you could divided those sandwiches into fourths. Your parents may have to help you with that since I cannot write on the pages. One way would be to make an X, another way would be to do a + on the square. You could also draw 3 lines from the top to the bottom or 3 lines across to make 4 equal pieces. Have your parents show you how.

On this page, you will be doing story problems. Let's look at #1. Roger wants to cut each sheet of paper into halves equally, two different ways. How can he cut them? Remember that halves means 2 pieces. The first sheet of paper can be cut right down the middle, either the hot dog way or the hamburger way. Then you could cut the second piece of paper from one corner to the other corner. Draw lines to sho how you would cut them. Ask your parents for help if you need it. On #2 you are going to pretend that the two rectangles are the two pieces of cloth. You need to divide each piece of cloth equally into thirds in two different ways. Remember that thirds would be 3 pieces. You could divide the first one the long way (across) into 3 pieces and then you could divide the next piece of cloth into 3 pieces the short way (up and down). Again ask your parents for help if you need it. Now you will do page 547 and 548 on your own.

Read the instructions on this page and do the work yourself. You will be dividing each shape into the different fractions that they tell you in the story problem. You will show these fractions 2 different ways. Remember that halves means 2 parts, thirds means 3 parts, and fourths mean 4 parts.

Follow the instructions on the page. Figure out the story problem on #6. On #7, you need to have the same amount of dimes and the same amount of quarters. These put together would equal 70cents. No more, no less. Don't forget to do the Test Prep question #8. You are picking the other way that you can show the fraction fourths. Remember that a fraction has to have equal pieces.

Okay, we are almost done with Math. Ask you parents if they want you to do the pages in the Math homework book for extra practice. It would be page 257 and 258 in your practice book and it looks like this

This is what you were doing on pages 546 & 547. Here is a little video about it if you need more help. I also added a song to help you remember fractions.

You do not need to do # 4 since we have not done measurement yet but you can try to answer the questions by guessing. Remember if you don't answer you have a 100% chance of getting it wrong but if you at least try you have a 25% chance of getting it right.

Okay, one last thing I have included is a story about fractions and another song. I hope you enjoy it. Since today is Monday there is no specialty. Maybe ask your parents if you could take a little break before writing if you need it.

Writing Block

Fractured Fairy Tales

Welcome back. I hope you had a good time in Math today. Now lets take a look at writing. This week you should be finishing up your Fractured Fairy Tale so that we can start on our Animal reports. I'm not going to spend a lot of time showing you videos of fractured fairy tales because I think you have the point of what one is like. If you have questions let me know. Today, If you haven't completed your sloppy copy or rough draft, keep working on that. If you have completed it, make sure that your parents have looked it over and helped you with your spelling and punctuation and then you can start working on your Glory Story or Final Draft. This should be written on the lined papers that came with your packet. Remember that you want to use your best handwriting. Make all the changes and corrections that you fixed on your rough draft. This is going to be attached to your folder. It will be a lot like the Biography Folders. I will show you how to put these together on Tuesday. I would love to read your stories. I'm so excited. I hope you all have a great Monday and I will see you back here tomorrow.
