Today I want you to think about how you can be a good citizen. A citizen is someone who obeys the laws and tries to help others in their community or town. I want you to write an opinion paper of what makes a good citizen. You need to do this on your own. No help from parents. They can discuss with you and help you brainstorm ideas, but when you write it needs to be your own words and writing. Think of what I talked about in the Morning Message. (Wearing helmets, using crosswalks, taking turns, picking up trash, only saying kind things, giving compliments, being safe... )
This should only take 20 minutes. After 20 minutes stop writing and email/text Mrs. Kitchen.
Rubric for Opinion Paper:
Topic sentences that states your opinion. Begin with a hook!
3 different ideas using First, Next, Then that gives details and proof of your opinion. Remember, in Second Grade you need at least one idea in each section (total of 3), but if you are on the road to a scholar you should write at least 3, use adjectives and good vocabulary, use context clues (definitions) if needed. Have voice- (make it fun.)
LAST End with a concluding statement that restates your opinion. End with a BANG!
Check for capitals and periods.
Email/text your opinion paper to me. I only want a rough draft. I only want you too have 20 minutes or less to do this.
This counts as you opinion paper on your grade.
