Animal Book: We are giving you an extra day to fill out the 3 pages of information for your animal book that was yesterdays assignment. See picture at the left. You should have a hard copy in you homework packet and Mrs. Kitchen attached a copy to your March 30th checklist. We suggest parents fill this out. There are some children who can do this on their own. You know your child and the stress level or if they need to be challenged. Check out the adobe voice examples from Friday March 27th. Your child will be expected to make a book and an adobe voice by the end of April. We will work you through this in small increments each day. The adobe voice are only examples. We want each child to make this book their own.
Diorama: Each child has a month to make a diorama of their habitat. It needs to show 1/2 nocturnal (What it looks like at night) and 1/2 diurnal(what it looks like during the day). If using a shoe box you can paint/color 1/2 the background dark blue or black and the other 1/2 yellow. You would put animals that are awake or a sleep according to behaviors. (In the past the children have drawn small animals, taped them to a toothpick, and stuck them into the play dough.) Looking forward to see what you create!
Suggestions:
* play dough
1-cup salt
3 cups Flour
1 cup of Luke warm water
Directions
1. In a large bowl mix salt and flour.
2. Gradually stir in water. Mix well until it forms a doughy consistency. (Use more water if necessary.)
3. With your hands form a ball with your dough and kneed it for at least 5 minutes. The longer you kneed the dough the smoother it will be.
4. The dough needs to be thicken enough to hold a small ball shape.

I know that some of these resources are hard to come by. Here are some ideas-
Use the extra pages in your math back. The ones you. have finish or the orange looking ones, any of your magazines and junk mail instead of newspaper or toilet paper. You will have to cut them in small pieces and get them wet.
Use dirt and sand to make a mud mixture. Crumble paper and cover them with the mud mixture to make hills and mountains.
Use grass and weeds to make it look like grasslands or fake moss from the dollar store.
Use fake flowers that your mom does not need, cut up Christmas Tree garland for pine trees.
Use plastic pastries and cookies come in for rivers and ponds. Other years we have put hair gel (May have to use blue food coloring) for water. Remember, all but one habitat has visible water in it.
We are so excited to see how you use your imagination.
This will be part of your adobe voice assignment to show your habitat creation and tell about it.
