Long ago there was a small town in Oregon called Greenville. On the outside, the small little town looked perfect, safe, and everything you would expect in a small town. But, if you look deeper, you will find beneath all the happiness and cheer of the townsfolk, a dark and powerful magic lurked deep in the forest. Our story begins with what Isabel and Ava found deep in the woods in the winter of 1989.
Stop doing that sound with the camera Ava, it’s getting really annoying. That is not my camera Isabel so stop saying… hey, look at that ant pile; it’s glowing! Suddenly, the mysterious glow and annoying sound got stronger. Isabel and Ava began to feel themselves getting lighter. Their bodies lifted off the ground and into the misty air. After a couple of seconds the glowing and sounds stopped and the friends dropped to the muddy floor.
What just happened? asked Ava. She waited for a response but the silence in the forest continued. Ava looked around and couldn’t see Isabel. She heard a loud banging sound and jumped a little, she turned around to where the sound was coming from and saw Isabel sticking her hand into the mysterious ant pile. Isabel, don’t do that, you will hurt yourself! Ava said frantically; Isabel replied by saying: it’s a dead ant pile Ava, relax, but come over here, there's a rusty lever inside of it.
They questioned themselves why on earth there could be a lever inside an ant pile in the middle of the forests. They were filled with curiosity and decided to pull the lever. They counted to three and pulled it. Nothing happened, so they tried it again, and again, and again until they finally gave up. Just when they were starting to leave they heard a rusty metal door slide open. They slowly turned around and to their surprise they saw a tree with a door shaped hole. They carefully looked inside that tree hole and saw what they least expected, a spiraling staircase going down. They were so curious they decided to go down the staircase and look around. They turned on their flashlights and went inside the tree and stepped down the spiraling stairs. Several minutes passed and they finally reached the end. In front of them, there was a bright red door. They looked at each other and proceeded to enter the miniature door. As they crawled inside, the small cramped space got bigger and bigger.
When the room stopped growing, there was a large green book on a glass display. The glass box had a lock, and surrounding the glass case were several stickers with the words “Don’t open” and “Fragile”. Ava went straight to the glass box and tried to open it. Hey Isabel, can you help me open this box, the lock won’t open. Isabel hesitated in wanting to take the book considering the amount of alarming stickers covering the glass, but Ava later convinced her that after everything they had just been through, they had to unlock it and see what was so dangerous and powerful about the book. Ava was shaking the box uncontrollably and Isabel exclaimed: Ava be careful with the glass box, don’t you see the stickers? Ava was so busy shaking the box that she accidentally dropped the glass box with the large green book on the floor. The glass shattered and went everywhere. The book landed open and the room filled with the mysterious green glow and sound from before. The pages of the book were flying off and circling the two girls and the book roared. Isabel and Ava could feel themselves being sucked into the book. Half of Ava’s body was already inside the book, and Isabel was clinging onto the last pieces of the table the book was laying on. As the force became stronger, the table started to deteriorate and shatter apart. Isabel and Ava were both stuck inside the book. The book roared and the glow intensified, Isabel couldn’t hold on the ridges of the book for much longer and Ava’s whole body was already inside the book. Isabel was hopeless. The book cover started to slowly close and push in what was left of Ava’s face and Isabel's body. Both of their screams echoed as the book cover slam shut and they entered the green book.
