The darkness of disconnection, is far too much to bear.
It cripples, consumes, crumbles, and crushes the spirit and soul.
Disconnection is the desolate dominion of despair.
The infinite gaps wider than anyone could leap.
The infinite caverns which swallows its victims whole.
The darkness of disconnection, is far too much to bear.
Sadness so thick, it puts you to sleep.
Darkness so dark, light falls down the hole.
Disconnection is the desolate dominion of despair.
The black cliffs so tall, dark, and steep.
Just looking at the glaring heights takes its toll.
The darkness of disconnection, is far too much to bear.
With nothing left to try, you begin to weep.
and your emotions only roll and roll.
Disconnection is the desolate dominion of despair.
The pain so bitter and bleak you fall into a heap,
and you can tell something fractured in your soul.
The darkness of disconnection, is far too much to bear.
Disconnection is the desolate dominion of despair.

What motivated you to write this piece?
Being in a pandemic, I have felt the isolation from friends and family that we all have felt. When I was writing “The Darkest Days," I wanted to voice that sorrow that I knew others were also feeling.
What is your ideal writing environment?
It depends on whatever I am writing. If I wanted to write a happy poem, I would go out and write in nature. Conversely, for “The Darkest Days," I isolated myself in my bedroom and wrote the poem.
What message do you hope to convey to the reader through your piece?
I want the reader to know that they are not alone. We are all feeling these emotions and we need to support one another.
