When we first meet a person
We use our ears and eyes
To completely analyze
And understand their life
With a glance, with a look
We’ve read them like a book
We don’t have to really know them
For our eyes can just expose them
With a peep, with a sound
We are able to expound
To explain their very being
That may have us decreeing:
If they act like a female
Though classify as male
They like men, they are gay
They go down the devils way
If a man
Is commanding
If they can be quite demanding
He’s a boss, he’s a leader
Yes he will be quite a pleaser
But a female
In these shoes
She is bossy, she is rude
She should really learn her place
Put a smile on that face
If they’re fat
They are lazy
If they’re black
They are gangy
With a hijab
They’re a crime lab
Many piercings
Yes they will stab
If they’re nerdy
They’re a creep
If they’re quiet
They’re a freak
If they’re rich
They’re a brat
If they’re poor
They’re a rat
We are victims
And offenders
When it comes to ears and eyes
Judging left
Judging right
Which brings sorrow
Through the night
Let’s be one
Let's be kind
Let us learn how to be nice
To uplift
Our society
And all live in prosperity
Let's be blind
Let's be deaf
Let’s remove our judging robes
Let us see
Differently
And hear what we once ignored
Let us learn
To love each other
And use our ears and eyes no more

What is your main source of inspiration?
I know this is not the same for everybody, but my main inspiration was social media. I follow a lot of accounts that help bring light to certain issues in the world, like the different injustices that people face. I realized that many of these problems we caused just because people automatically judge others, and never take the time to learn about each individual person for who they are.
What was the most difficult part of your writing process for this work?
The most difficult part of my writing process was finding out a way that the whole peace would flow. I would write different parts of it on different days, and then read through what I’ve written so far, and then realize that the rhythm was kind of off, or the ideas did not flow in general.
What message do you hope to convey to the reader through your piece?
I hope that when somebody reads my piece, it will open their eyes, and kind of act like a mirror to them, and help them ask themselves, “Do I constantly use only my ears and eyes to determine how I am going to act towards a person? How I am going to treat them?” I hope it helps them to become a better person that fights for what is right, and does not let the very quick judgement they make of people, determine what they say or do to them.
