Adolescence Syndrome

Something there, but forgotten and unseen,
In the eye of the observer is the lie.
Repeating forever wanting a different dream.
Eventually turning inside out, not what it seemed.
Everything blurry in this blind all seeing eye.
Something there, but forgotten and unseen
Full of lies the water teems.
Reflections warped and altered to thy,
Repeating forever wanting a different dream.
Left wondering its implications and what it means.
As forgetting is the same as letting it die
Something there, but forgotten and unseen
Remember to have someone on your team.
Feeling abandoned tears streaming down as one cries,
Repeating forever wanting a different dream.
Minds left to wander and careen
Finding love, invisible and not tangible, but unbroken ties
Something there, but forgotten and unseen
To exist must one be observed and beam?
Repeating, expecting a different result is insanity, but one still tries
Something there but forgotten and unseen,
Repeating forever wanting a different dream.

What is your main source of inspiration?
My main source of inspiration is what is around me, as I like my writing am a product of my environment. That can be anything from a TV show I just watched or current events that have transpired anything and everything can become inspiration.
What motivated you to write this piece?
I have always enjoyed writing poems. Specifically, what inspired me for this poem was an anime called Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai. The show explores some deep interesting themes and I thought those same themes could be reflected perfectly in poem form.
Do you write sporadically or regularly?
I write pretty sporadically. A burst of ideas will come flying at me arbitrarily and I will write down the idea or the full poem as most take me around 10 minutes.
What artists and/or writers inspired or influenced your work?
I am heavily included by song lyrics with those of Billie Eilish and Tyler the Creator being some of my favorites. Their lyrics always require some level of higher thought to fully comprehend and I like my writing to have that same quality.
What was the most difficult part of your writing process for this work?
This poem was specifically hard to write as I am used to writing free verse so following a structure was definitely more difficult.
What is your ideal writing environment?
My ideal writing environment is somewhat busy I like outside noise. Most times I will have my TV on or music playing and this helps by feeding me ideas and or rhymes.
How do you resonate with your piece? Why is it personal to you?
This piece resonates with me as I based it off of a show that I fell deeply in love with. The reason I fell in love with the show was because of how relatable it was, but it wasn’t scared of exploring psychological aspects as well. The cherry on top is that I could see my own life reflected in the story and characters and writing this poem was my way of expressing my thoughts and feelings on the matter.
What message do you hope to convey to the reader through your piece?
I really want the reader to question their past experiences throughout their life as well as their relationships with other people. I enjoyed writing this poem as it explores a lot of deep themes. For instance, if something or someone is invisible to society is it truly worthless or does it still have some kind of value? My goal is always to have the reader question themselves and what they read in order to challenge a new way of thinking from them.
