The visit offered a unique platform for students to explore specific adaptations firsthand. Observing the seasonal transformation of holly plants, with its increased spikiness, allowed them to understand how this natural defense mechanism protects against predators. The Year 6 students exemplified excellent behavior and actively participated, their enthusiasm reflecting a strong grasp of the presented concepts.

Careers Day June 2023

This year, our Career’s Day was a huge success. We had a large number of volunteers who came to Lea Forest to speak to Years 4, 5 and 6 about their career journeys. The speakers had mostly taken different paths, and had individual journeys to gain experience, knowledge and a true feeling of what they really wanted to do as a career. Children were exposed to a whole range of career paths including: banking, insurance, Ministry of Justice, immigration law, fire fighter, football coach, teacher, head of robotics,

electronics engineer, medical students and many more. The children were able to engage in an informative discussion with each adult, enquiring about their current job roles as well as their previous ones. Children were able to understand the different skills and subjects required for different careers. The impact this day has had on the children has been a very positive one. These meaningful encounters have encouraged children with aspirations for their future careers. We have had some wonderful feedback from both

volunteers and children. I can confidently say that all children were remarkable ambassadors for Lea Forest.

Science Experience Day at Cockshut Hill - March 2023

Children from years 4, 5 and 6 had a fantastic opportunity to take part in a science day at Cockshut Hill School. All children were fantastic ambassadors for Lea Forest and demonstrated exemplary behaviour.

The day began with a tour where children were shown the brilliant facilities the school has to offer. This was a great opportunity for children to have an insight to the next stage of their education. Children were then taken to the science labs where they learnt all about chemical reactions. They were given an investigation task of exploring flame tests for various metal ions.

During the second part of the day, children were taught the importance of CPR. Teaching CPR to is one of the most powerful tools available to reduce death rates from sudden cardiac arrest. The children were really engaged with the workshop and they were able to practise CPR on rescue training manikins.

Working with Cockshut Hill School has provided children with an insight to different aspects of science learning as well giving them meaningful experiences and encounters. We will be working with them again in the future, providing children with a range of opportunities for their learning and career skills development.

Careers Day 2022

Mrs Seera - Lea Forest had their first careers day event this week and it was a huge success! The children spoke to many of the visitors and asked lots of fantastic questions. All the visitors were delighted to speak to year 6 and found the event so good that they will definitely return again next year for the other students of Lea Forest. The purpose of this event was to allow

children to find out about jobs that they may not be aware of and to give them high aspirations for their own future career pathways. They can be whatever they want to be!

I can confidently say that it was a very successful event and I am proud of all the children- they were a remarkable representation of all our school values.

Paul McGroy, Madoc & Rhodes -  Lovely polite and enthusiastic children. Even at the year 6 stage it is important to talk to children about the importance of the basics.

Year 3 visited Mount Pleasant School Farm this week and had a fantastic time. We fed the sheep and the hens and collected freshly laid eggs (some were even green!) We were introduced to two pigs called Daisy and Pixie who were only 17 weeks old but they were HUGE!! We met the dairy cows and learned about how they were milked. The baby calves were very cute. We asked lots of questions about farming as a career and Nikki explained that we could be anything from a dairy farmer to a tractor engineer, a vet to an auctioneer. We have high aspirations here at Lea Forest and by the end of this brilliant trip there are now lots of budding future farm workers!

During Reading for Curriculum week, Year 2 had the opportunity to explore the book 'The Kiosk' by the author Anete Melece. With the fantastic expertise of Anthony James (from Creaturama), the children were able to create their very own kiosks using junk modelling. They thoroughly enjoyed designing, creating and painting their kiosks, with Anthony sharing his tips and tricks along the way.

Anthony James is an incredible artist who has had experience creating 3D models and props for television and films. As a Set and Production Designer, Anthony has designed for over 50 professional and amateur productions. Some of his work includes appearing on Blue Peter, creating props for the film 'Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom' and delivering workshops across the country. He has created over 700 models and his work can be seen in his exhibition on the Isle of Wight.

Year 4 had an INCREDIBLE time at Stafford Castle. The trip supported the children’s History learning in their Vikings and Anglo Saxons topic. Pupils explored real artefacts from the past, they minted their own coin and they clambered up the huge, grassy hill to the historicStafford Castle. It was a truly memorable day for all our children

On Thursday 17th March Year One visited the Black Country Museum. We explored poor and rich houses, visited a Victorian classroom and played with old toys. We talked to lots of different people who explained what it was like to live a long time ago. We found the Victorian classroom a little bit scary as the teacher was very strict. We had to say our times tables and have our nails checked. Mrs Bagagiolo got into trouble because her nails were painted pink!

Here are some the questions the children asked and the answers they received:

Saxon - "Where is the TV?" - There was no electricity, so we had to make our own entertainment.

Ellie - "Why are you wearing those funny clothes?" - This is how people dressed a long time ago.

Jessi-Jaymes "Where do you go to the toilet?" - We had to go outside into another building and use the shared toilet.

We then went into the ‘Science Garden which had lots of fantastic experiments to explore. The children went to see ‘Things about Me’ where they could investigate how our bodies work and even had the opportunity to control a robot. We took part in an engineering workshop where they had to work together to build a sturdy tower. The children were REMARKABLE in every way and demonstrated all of our school values.

Year one visited Twycross Zoo on Tuesday 28th June. They were go to see lots of different animals, including: giraffes, rhinos, penguins and zebras. After looking at the animals and reading about their enclosures, they had the opportunity to visit the study room at Torcross zoo where they found out about animal habitats and adaptations. They found out why some animals live in hotter and cooler climates as well as learning about how they adapt to live in that environment. Did you know a giraffes tongue is dark in colour to stop it from burning? Year one were remarkable throughout the day and a member of the public said “this is the best behaved school I’ve seen all day”. There were a credit to each and every one of you.
