Hermeneutics is a course that introduces undergraduate students to the contemporary theory of interpretation promoted by Hans-Georg Gadamer. Through exposure to the primary essays, the course highlights essential ideas that constitute Gadamer's hermeneutics, which is different from other versions of hermeneutics that preceded it.
At the end of the course, the students shall have been able to (1) trace the differentiate between classical and philosophical hermeneutics; (2) define Gadamer's version of the hermeneutical problem; (3) explain the centrality of language in philosophical hermeneutics; and (4) define the task of hermeneutics as philosophy.
