As part of our current topic which is Design and Technology and linking to our phonics sound last week oa we have been designing and testing our very own boats. We have been learning about things that float and things that sink and then have been using our knowledge and understanding to design and create our very own boats. Today we tested them out to see if the would float or sink! Look at our boats go!
In Writing we are using colourful semantics to help us create sentences. We have then been using what we know about sounds to write sentences identifying what are the important things that make up a sentence and showing how we can be successful by including these!

Fruit Kebabs 🍇🍓🍊🍏
Today we made fruit kebabs. Some of our health and wellbeing outcomes are about healthy eating and we have been learning a lot about what is healthy and what is not. Our school is also in the midst of creating our very own cookbook and fruit kebabs are one of our chosen recipe's so we just had to make them for our self!
For always making sure she is doing her best to tidy the classroom and helping and encouraging her friends to do the same. What an excellent role model!
Yesterday we visited Kincorth library for the first time as a class. We got a funnt story called 'don't think of tigers' read to us by the librarian then got to look at books on our own. We have chosen 4 books to take back to school to read as a whole class until we go back to the library. Everyone had a great time and behaved exceptionally well in the library; looking after the books and being super quiet! We can't wait to go back 😀
Today we got a visit from the Teddy Bear Hospital. Some lovely medical students came in and showed us some medical equipment and taught us how to use it. We learned about how doctors and nurses at the hospital look after us and make us feel better when we aren't feeling well and we practiced on our teddies.
This term in Numeracy we are looking at doubling and halving and are learning about how to share equally. This afternoon we practiced sharing cubes. We pretended the cubes were sweeties, chocolates and toys as we practiced being fair with our friends.
As part of our Health and Wellbeing topic we have been learning about healthy eating. We have looked at the EatWell plate and what makes a healthy lunch. Today we created our own healthy luncboxes.
Creating our own Tartan
A part of our Scotland topic we have been learning about Tartan. We know that Scotland used to have clans and that each clan wore their own tartan. We had a go at creating our own tartan out of paper and they turned out great!

X marks the spot ! 🏴☠️
Today we learned a new sound X. We had lots of fun playing pirates and creating our very own treasure map, making sure we add an X marks the spot to show were the treasure is hidden! We then painted our maps with tea and coffee to make them look even more realistic and old.
Literacy
We will be learning to recognise and form initial phonics sounds
We will also be looking at on Poetry as part of our writing focus as well as beginning to create words and sentences using our sound knowledge.
Numeracy
We will continue to practice our number formations as well as using our knowledge of numbers to practice number concepts such as counting amounts, counting forwards and backwards, ordering numbers and adding/ subtracting and numbers before/after
We will be following the Big Maths Scheme to support us with learning basic number concepts.

Our first topic this term is Scotland. Some of the things we will be focusing on are Scottish foods, traditions, dance, songs, famous Scots and much more!

The children all done so well performing in our Christmas Nativity Show. We had so much fun. Well done everyone!

Today we had our Christmas party. We had loads of fun. We played some party games. We played Christmas corners, Musical Bumps and Pass the Parcel. We also had a dancing competition and there was a lot of fantastic moves! Then had some yummy snacks and juice and even got a surprise visit from Santa who gave us all a present for under our tree!

World Book Week 2024.
This week is World Book Week. To celebrate this we were drawing and writing about our favourite books and are getting to take our book bug book bags home on Friday filled with lots of exciting things to enjoy.
This week our first new sound is g. We had loads of fun this morning creating gorgeous gardens as our phonics craft!

In primary 1 we have been doing a great job of brushing our teeth. We do this every day after lunch. We have been learning about why we brush our teeth and how important it is as well as how to do it safely.
Today our sound was 'd'. Our phonics craft was creating little ducks! Our ducks had some amazing names. Some of these were daisy, donald and dizzy.
Our first sound this week is 'm'. To practice this sound we made monster masks. Look at all of these amazing monsters!
For putting 100% effort into all of her school jobs and getting involved in everything we have been doing in school this week. This is a big achievement for you! Well done.
Today our new sound was 'r'. We made rockets and pretended that they were racing into space making a rrrrrr noise.
A note to say this Thursday 10th October is World Mental Health day and so the children are encouraged and welcomed to wear yellow on Thursday to support this.
A further note to say this Friday 11th October is a 'Treat Snack Day' where instead of fruit the children can either bring in their own yummy treat or can bring in money to purchase something from the treat snack trolley because it is the last day of term.
This afternoon we went to Margaret Clyne care home to be creative with the residents. We done some halloween colouring in and drawing and also got to decorate some witches hats using with glitter and stickers. We had a lovely time playing and chatting to everyone and will definitely be back another time for some more fun!
Today our new sound was 'h' and our phonics craft was making happy, hairy little hedgehogs using leaves from the playground! It is definitely Autumn.

Today we made Elmo puppets for our new sound 'e'. We had lots of fun playing with our puppets, it was very exciting!

This afternoon we had a great time playing and having fun in our very first outdoor learning session. We played some group games together and then got a chance to free play with all of the outdoor learning equipment. Some of us made dens, some of us played on the tyre swing and some played rolling games with the barrels amongst many other things. We can't wait for our next session already!

Our current maths topic is pattern and shape. We have been using numicon a lot recently in all aspects of our learning especially through play. Today we used numicon to create some patterns and practiced our number formation. Miss Smart was very proud of all the children for their wonderful creations and we had the pleasure of Mrs Douglas joining in with this lesson too!
Today we were learning the 'n' sound. We had lots of fun pretending to be airplanes making our 'nnnnn' sounds as we flew across the room! We also made nests for our phonics craft. What a nice job p1!
Today we were learning the sound p . We made our very own penguins to practice our p sounds and we named our penguins names beginning with p. Some names chosen were Percy, Pingu and Polly!
Knock, Knock!
As part of our current topic 'Kincorth', we were learning about the different types of houses around the village and took a closer look at all the different numbers on the doors! Miss Smart was super impressed at how observant some of the children must be as a lot of our class could remember their very own door number without Miss Smart's help! We designed our very own door number which will be displayed on our topic wall in the classroom. Look at these creative designs!

Yesterday we explored Numicon! Numicon is a fantastic numeracy resource that can be manipulated and used in many different ways. As this was our first time using it we learned what colour and numbereach piece of numicon was and then got creative building shapes with it! Next week we look forward to using numicon to make patterns!

Today we are had a lovely visit from the NHS nurses who talked to us about the importance of sleep! We got to be real nurses and wear our very own tunics and learned about how much sleep we should be getting, why it is so important to get a good sleep and got tips and tricks on how to sleep better. We also looked at a good example of a night time routine which everyone has their very own copy of to try at out home! 💤
This week we have been learning and practicing two new sounds s and a. Each week to consolidate our learning we will be doing a craft activity for each sound. Today we were adding apples to our apple tree using apple stamps and practicing our a formations too. 🍎
This week we have been trying out some Yoga with the P1/2 class. The children really enjoyed their first Yoga session and this is something that will continue throughout the term. Namaste
