E.A.R.V. stands for Emergency Athletic Response Vehicle. This vital piece of Athletic Training equipment was purchased in August 2012, and arrived on campus in October 2012. This 2011 John Deer Gator 625i and Kimtek "MedBed" were purchased without using one cent of district funding. All the funding was procured through a sizable grant from New York State, which also benefited the Lakeland and Walter Panas School Districts Athletic Training programs. Both Senator Greg Ball and then Yorktown councilman, Senator Dr. Terrence Murphy, were instrumental in working with our districts to make the funds available.
This vehicle not only makes it easier to navigate the vast campus at YHS and neighboring fields we use, such as Downing and FDR park (X-country), it provides a much faster response time then previous "golf carts". The custom "MedBed' attachment is designed to carry one patient, one attendant and assorted emergency gear. It has 9 cubic feet of enclosed storage under the patient area for medical bags, trauma supplies etc. The Gator also sports an array of utility and emergency lighting to alert pedestrians and bystanders of an oncoming emergency vehicle.
The ability to carry the vast array of medical supplies & equipment needed in the outdoor athletic setting directly to the scene, makes this an indispensable piece of equipment for the Athletic Training department. Yorktown Athletics is on top of their game by having the best outfitted E.A.R.V. around!
