Injuries At School
Injuries which occur during practices or games at Yorktown High School should be reported initially to the coach who will direct the student-athlete to me, or the student-athlete can come to me directly for evaluation and referral. In many cases, I am present on the field/court and can evaluate them at the time of injury. Fortunately, most injuries sustained are minor and your child will be instructed on home care and anticipated follow-up care.
In case of a more extensive injury, parents/guardians will be contacted by the coach or Athletic Trainer with instructions on what steps to take.
Regardless of the severity of the injury, it is imperative that the instructions given to the athlete are strictly followed. This will ensure the safest and quickest return to activity. If after following the instructions the injury is not getting better or the athlete is not getting relief, return to the Athletic Training room for further evaluation. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your child's injury, feel free to contact me.
The training room is open daily, and I am on campus until most practices and games are over.
Injuries On The Road
When an athlete is injured during competition away from Yorktown High School, the coach should be notified immediately. All Yorktown coaches are trained and certified in First Aid, CPR, & AED. Athletes may be taken to the Athletic Trainer of the host school, if available, for evaluation or referred to me for evaluation following return to the school. Because of travel times and distances of contests from Yorktown, the athlete may need to report the injury to the school nurse or follow-up with me in the training room the next day.
In cases of significant injury, parents will be contacted about the injury directly by the host Athletic Trainer, Coach, or myself and consulted about the problem and what course of action to take.
It is important that I am notified of any sports related injury, so we can work together to prevent minor injuries from getting worse. The training room is open daily, and I am on campus until most practices and games are over.
