If your son or daughter has experienced an injury, please know that I will do whatever I can to help them care for this injury. I will evaluate the injury and decide if they need a referral to a physician or if I can treat them here in the Athletic Training room. If you have any questions regarding your son or daughter's injury, please feel free to contact me via email (jgiuliano@yorktown.org) or phone to help answer any of your questions.
With that being said, it is imperative that the instructions given to the athlete are strictly followed. This will ensure the safest and quickest return to activity. If after following the instructions the injury is not getting better or the athlete is not getting relief, return to the athletic training room for further evaluation.
Obviously if the injury is getting much worse and it is impossible to get the athlete into the athletic training room, take the athlete to see a sports medicine physician. Please inform the coach and/or the Athletic Trainer if you intend to see a physician. ANYTIME AN ATHLETE SEES A PHYSICIAN FOR AN INJURY, A DOCTORS’ NOTE MUST BE PROVIDED TO THE SCHOOL NURSE PRIOR TO RETURN TO ACTIVITY. The note should include diagnosis, restrictions, any rehabilitation requirements, and date the athlete may return to activity. They still must pass a functional evaluation prior to return to sport.
It is the student-athletes responsibility to report all injuries/illness to the coach and Certified Athletic Trainer as soon as is possible. This includes all injuries that occur at away events. To provide the best quality and continuity of care, the athlete should report all injuries PRIOR to any further participation.
Thank You,
