Apophysitis - an inflammation of a bony outgrowth that is still attached to the rest of the bone.
ATF sprain – Anterior talofibular ligament injury (ankle). Most commonly injured ankle ligament.

Brachial Plexus Injury – overstretched nerves along side of neck, causes numbness and weakness in arm.
Bursitis- inflammation of fluid filled sacks within joints called bursa

Capsule sprain – injury to the ligamentous joint support

Gate Control Theory - theory by Melzack &Wall (1962) that physical pain is not a direct result of activation of pain receptor neurons, but rather its perception is modulated by interaction between different neurons.
Gleno-humeral sprain – Stretched or torn shoulder ligaments
Gleno-humeral subluxation – shoulder ball and socket joint partially dislocates, then quickly relocates

Hamstring strain – pulled muscle located along back of thigh
Hip flexor strain – injury to muscle in front of hip

IT band Tendinitis- inflammation along outer aspect of the knee, common in runners
Impetigo- a contagious bacterial skin infection spread by contact
Impingement Syndrome - shoulder pain caused by tendinitis of the rotator cuff tendon or subacromial bursa- see also: Rotator Cuff Impingement

Jumper's Knee - chronic tendinosis of the patellar tendon, frequently located at the bottom of the kneecap
Jones Fracture - fracture at the base of the 5th metatarsal, frequently heals with some difficulty

LCL- lateral collateral ligament of the knee (outer aspect of knee), rarely injured
Lumbar Spine – refers to the lower back
M
MCL- medial collateral ligament of the knee (inner aspect of knee)
Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome – shin splints
Meniscal tear – cartilage tear (knee)
Metacarpal fracture- broken hand
Metatarsal - the name of the bones of the foot
Metatarsal stress Fx- small crack in one of the foot bones
MRI - Magnetic Resonance Imaging; an advanced imaging test to help diagnose musculo-skeletal injury

Neuritis – nerve inflammation
NSAID - non-steroidal anti inflammatory drug (such as Aleve, Advil, Motrin, Ibuprofen)

Osgood Schlatter's Disease - injury (apophysitis) of the tibial tubercle

Patellar tendonitis – inflammation of tendon just below kneecap, see also Jumper's Knee
Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome (PFPS) – muscle tightness/imbalance resulting in kneecap pain and crepitus with movement
PCL- posterior cruciate ligament of the knee
Peroneal tendonitis/strain– injured muscle/tendon in lateral lower leg/ankle
Plantar fasciitis- inflammation of the fascia of the arch; strained arch

Quad strain – pulled muscle along front of thigh

Radio-carpal sprain – wrist ligament injury
Rhomboid strain – pulled muscle between shoulder blades
ROM – range of motion
Rotator Cuff Tendonitis/Impingement – inflammation of the rotator cuff tendon or sub-acromial bursa
S
S/C sprain – injury to the sternoclavicular joint. Area where the collarbone (clavicle) meets the sternum
Sever's Disease - irritation of the growth plate of the calcaneus; calcaneal apophysitis
S/I joint dysfunction– injury to the sacro-iliac joint, located just below the middle back part of your waist
SLAP lesion – torn cartilage (labrum) around shoulder socket (Superior Labrum Anterior Posterior tear)
Spondylolysis – stress fracture in lumbar spine (lower back)
Sx- symptoms
Stress fx – stress fracture, small crack in a bone, common in shin and feet, due to overuse
Synovitis- inflammation of joint lining

Tendonitis - Inflammation of a tendon
Tenosynovitis -
Tendinopathy - refers to a condition where a tendon has both inflammation & micro-tears
Tibial – referring to the shin bone
U
UCL sprain- injured thumb ligament (ulnar collateral ligament), also refers to ligament along inner elbow (Tommy John surgery)
