Chest & Abdomen
Chest and Abdominal injuries in athletes are relatively rare, but when they do occur, they can be severe and gravely dangerous. All those involved in the care of athletes should be able to recognize the warning signs of a potentially life-threatening injury to the liver, spleen, or other visceral organs. Athletic Trainers, EMS, or even Physicians cannot provide definitive treatment or diagnosis for many of these conditions on the field. However, they should be familiar with the usual clinical signs and symptoms of chest and abdominal trauma, and any athlete showing these signs should be transported to the nearest medical facility immediately.
