ME-IT will assist users in setting up group accounts (shared accounts) for computer access. Group accounts allow multiple users in a lab to use a shared computing environment.
An example of the use of shared group accounts:
-A team is running an experiment that another login cannot interrupt. A shared group login would allow everyone on the team to unlock the computer to review the experiment.
Restrictions on group accounts:
-All shared group accounts cannot have admin access to the computer. Individual user accounts can have admin access, and administrative changes can be tracked to the user account.
-All shared group accounts must have their passwords reset within 365 days of the initial creation. This ensures that outgoing lab members will not maintain access to UM resources.
-All shared group accounts must start with ME-* (ME-SHARED-ACCOUNT is an example).
-All shared accounts must be on the domain (UMROOT\USER), not local (ME-COMPUTER\USER).
