Printers & Scanners

Most Department printing is facilitated via multi-function printers placed in GG Brown and the Auto Lab. 

These multi-function devices can also scan to email. Please ask one of the admins for assistance scanning if you need help. 

All lab printers must be purchased through ME-IT. ME-IT must verify that the hardware meets minimum system requirements and is compatible with our network infrastructure. 

Starting in 2026, ME-IT has begun converting the department to MPrint, U-M's printing service that allows campus community members to print from their computers or mobile devices to many campus printers. 

MPrint Printer Installation Instructions:

1. Click the Block M utility in your system tray (Windows) or your menu bar at the top of the screen (Mac)

2. Click MPrint Printer Installer

3. Once the MPrint Installer opens, type in the printer room number in the quick search bar (as shown).

2380 = GG Brown main admin suite
2039 = Auto Lab admin suite

4. Click the printer you want to add, and then click "Install Queues" 

5. The install should show "1 of 1 queue installation is complete!", and "No queues failed to install!" 

Printer Information:

Xerox AltaLink C8055 Mult-Function devices are located in 2380 GG Brown and 2039 Auto Lab.

-Most lab spaces have their printers set up for lab purposes. ME-IT does not provide paper or toner for any lap printers. 

-ME-IT does not support printer or scanner hardware in personal offices. We focus our support on the central department multi-function devices. 

-ME-IT highly recommends that all toner be ordered via M-Marketsite.

-ME-IT printers are on a secured private network (10. VLAN), accessible only to/from U-M networks, including the U-M VPN. This effort greatly reduces the amount of SPAM & fraudulent print jobs the campus has received.
