ME-IT Personally Owned Device (POD) Support Policy

1. For Faculty (T&TT, Research Scientists, Emeritus), ME-IT will not distinguish between personal and UM owned laptops for support. 

2. For students & staff, ME-IT will only provide consulting and limited support with PODs. All support for students & staff POD will be at the discretion of ME-IT. 

Guidelines for POD support:

-UM owned and licensed software can not be installed on a POD.

-The system must not be older than seven years. 

-For hardware related issues, the system must be under warranty by the manufacturer. 

-Any support on the device must be for UM/ME purposes. Example: We cannot assist with installing or supporting personal software (Minecraft, TurboTax, etc.) 

-Support for offsite PODs will be extremely limited, and, may require the installation of tools so that ME-IT can assist without barriers. 

-ME-IT will not travel off-campus for POD support.

-ME-IT can not be held responsible for any issues that arise during or after our assistance working on PODs. 

-ME-IT will not allow PODs on ME-managed wired networks.
