Networking
All ME networks are behind U-M's Next-Generation Firewall (NGFW). The NGFW protects university information assets from cybercriminals and stops threats to the network. The platform provides consistent protection and enhances the university's information security efforts.
-ME-IT only allows authorized systems on our wired networks. Personal devices are not permitted.
--For systems to be on our wired networks, they must run CrowdStrike Endpoint Protection.
-All wired network connections require a U-M VPN for inbound traffic, even on MWireless.
-Most outbound traffic is allowed by default. We block remote access applications like TeamViewer, Chrome Remote Desktop, and others.
-Most networks within Mechanical Engineering are segmented for security.
-U-M does not allow extending networks. An example would be installing a wireless router in a lab environment. All network requests must go through me-it@umich.edu.
U-M ITS manages all WiFi, including MWireless, eduroam, MGuest, and MSetup - https://its.umich.edu/enterprise/wifi-networks/wifi
MSetup - MSetup helps you to register and connect your devices to the U-M wireless campus network without a MWireless login. Please register your devices here: https://msetup.its.umich.edu/
