What if you had been told your entire life that your village was the last village of humans on the planet? What if your village was surrounded by a fence and guards to protect it from what inhabits the surrounding forest. The Sisters preach obedience and not to go near the fences to the villagers. Mary and her mother are different. Mary's mother use to tell her stories of what life was like before The Return. People were free to go wherever they wanted. There were oceans and cities full of people many generations ago. The Return began so long ago that one one in the village believes that the stories are true except for Mary and her mother. When The Return invades the village, Mary must run for her life. In the journey to save her life she will attempt to search and find out if the stories are true. Will she make it to the ocean or be killed by The Return? Or is the existence of the ocean just a story?
