The definition of Verity is true or honest. In 1943 two British girls want to help their country defeat Nazi Germany. The girls join the Women's Auxiliary Air Force and become friends. Maddie eventually flies planes from base to base in England. Julia, who speaks fluent German, becomes a British secret agent. Julia's, code name "Verity", first overseas mission is in Nazi occupied France. Maddie is the pilot who flies her there. On the way to France they are shot down. Julia is able to parachute into France and Maddie is forced to crash land. The girls do not know what happened to each other. Julia is captured and tortured by the Nazis.They want her to give up British secret codes and base locations. Will Julia "sell her soul" to avoid being sent to a Nazi concentration camp? Did Maddie survive the plane crash and can she save Julia from the Nazis? This is a story about friendship, war, and espionage. Just when you think you know what the truth is, think again.
