The Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAC) was created during World War II. There main purpose was to perform military jobs in the United States in order to free up male soldiers who would then fight in the war overseas. Many women felt that joining the WAACs would provide them job opportunities they could not have in the civilian world. These women change peoples' perceptions as to what women were capable of achieving. African Americas saw the WAACs as a way to achieve integration in the United States. Unfortunately this did not happen as quickly as they would have wanted. These women had to fight for their rights, and some were even threatened with court martials. If not for the 6888th Central Postal Battalion, many soldiers in Europe would have never received their mail and care packages. This book is about the African American WAAC members, their struggles, and their accomplishments.
