Abraham Lincoln was assassinated in 1865 by John Wilkes Booth. Few people know that in 1861 there was a conspiracy plan in motion to assassinate him on his way to Washington, D.C. for his inauguration. In order to avoid the assassination attempt Lincoln had to sneak his way by train and horses through Baltimore, Maryland and into Washington, D.C. The plan was that he would be killed while traveling trough Baltimore in an open carriage in order to change trains. The men, members of a secret society, planning the assassination were pro-Southern sympathizers who did not want an anti-slavery president. They met in secret and did not know that there were private investigators among them, including the first female private detective in America. Just think want would have happened if the assassination attempt had been successful.
