TESDA-NCR kicks-off 2019 (Luzon) Zonal Skills Competition

The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority – National Capital Region (TESDA-NCR) officially kicks-off its 2019 (Luzon) Zonal Skills Competition (ZSC), today, November 6, 2019 at the TESDA Auditorium in Taguig City where 123 competitors and 119 experts will be demonstrating exceptional display of skills proficiency and excellence in 21 trade areas.

The highlight of the program is the symbolic cutting of the Competition Chain that signaled the official start of the 5-day skills competition which will be held in 6 competition sites from November 6 to 10, 2019. This was led by TESDA-NCR Regional Director Conrado G. Bares and Secretary Isidro S. Lapeña. Also during the opening program, the 120 competitors and 116 experts took their oath of sportsmanship.

In his welcome remarks, Director Conrado G. Bares conveyed his gratitude to the competitors, experts, and delegates of each 

for participating in the Zonal Skills Competition. “This is a very significant day for us and I am grateful for your continued support to the conduct of skill competitions. The objective of the competition is not only to showcase our skills and be competitive worldwide but to also further the reach of Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in the country as a means of addressing poverty and unemployment.”, he said. 

“I wish you all good luck and may you give your best in representing your regions during the competition. Winning the ZSC, will take you a step closer to representing the Philippines in the ASEAN Skills Competition in Singapore in 2020 and eventually, the World Skills Competition in Shanghai, China in 2021”, added the NCR Regional Director.

For this year’s zonal skills competition, the 24 skills areas where the competitors and experts will be contending include: Mechatronics; Mechanical Engineering CAD; Web Technologies; IT Software Solution for Business; IT Network Systems Administration; Graphic Design Technology; Internet of Things; Beauty Therapy; Hairdressing; Industrial Automation; Information Network Cabling; Electrical Installations; Refrigeration and Airconditioning; Wall and Floor Tiling; Cabinet Making; Joinery; Bricklaying; Cooking; Carpainting; Automobile Technology; Electronics; Fashion Technology; Restaurant Services; Welding Technology; and Mobile Robotics.

“These competition areas are aligned to the ASEAN and World Skills Competition, and to ensure that our competitors will be competitive in the international arena, we have already patterned our test packages to the international standards”, Bares further said.

In his keynote speech, Director General Secretary Isidro S. Lapeña said that the Zonal Skills Competition aims to develop locally and internationally competent experts and competitors who can represent the Philippines worldwide. This is likewise a great avenue where we can showcase the quality of our TVET graduates and at the same time promote TVET to the public. “The TVET has gone a long way since its inception and it is a perfect proof that the conduct of skill competitions plays a huge part in its success.”, Secretary Lapeña added.

The 6 competition sites where the TESDA-NCR RSC will be held are as follows: Lyceum of the Philippines – Manila; HRDI-PhilKor; TESDA Building No. 5; TESDA Women’s Center; TESDA Bayanihan Buillding; and Toyota Motor Philippines school of Technology – Laguna. END
