UWC ISAK Merch Club

I have joined Merch Club midway through the first semester. I knew that this experience wouldn’t have been counted towards my report card until semester 2, but nevertheless, I was so passionate and was eager to make change in the community.

This year, the UWC ISAK Merch Club has had two very big events. The first was the Merch Winter Market which occurred before the break, and the second was the arrival of the 150+ hoodies that were ordered by the students, faculty, and staff. Initiating the process was not an easy one, and we often found ourselves to be in tough situations, but I am glad that everything worked out. The power of collaboration is what makes Merch Club successful and we have many motivated individuals who want to cause change. We had to go through a whole ton of documentation but the system did work out nicely. My role in this club is the chief financial officer (CFO). I am responsible for anything that has to do with handling money and the documentation required. I must admit that while no money loss or major errors occurred in our first major event (Merch Winter Market), I kind of struggled to keep up with everything that was going on during the week. I was just a new member at the time, and was overwhelmed with this huge task. Keeping track and not losing money is the most important part of any club/business, and I eventually got through with no errors in our first event. As for the second event (arrival of the hoodies), I was more confident, relaxed, and handled a really huge amount of money well. I have established connections with the accounting office at ISAK, and so now we always have a safe place to place our finances in. This growth that I experienced was due to my disappointment in the first event. The leader and my fellow members helped me a lot in the first event, but in this second one I handled all the finances myself and even helped out in other areas.

The UWC ISAK Merch Club, while new, has already caused many changes to our school community. The choices that we make in our actions, and the efforts that we put in are for the benefit of the school. This is a non profit club, and so our purpose is to create merchandise that members of our community would have pride in wearing, pride in representing our school.

Stay tuned for our future projects!
