As a person who lived in those two countries which are located on opposite sides of the world, I constantly keep receiving questions about the weather conditions.
"Which side is better?"
"Can you breath at -47 degrees Celsius?"
"Are jackets and heater enough to keep you warm?"
"Don't you melt at 45 degrees Celsius?"
"How can people work outside in the heat?"
I personally do not get bored from answering the same questions over and over again, I in fact enjoy answering those questions as it is fun to share my experiences with others.
The purpose of this blog is to simply give my personal opinion on which side (condition) I prefer, alongside a description of the conditions and what I've seen with my eyes.
Omani Weather:
With temperatures ranging from 27 to 50 degrees Celsius, the Omani weather has established a very positive reputation among my Canadian friends. People who experienced one side of the spectrum would obviously be happy to experience the other side and I honestly do not blame the. I also wanted to see what a -47 degrees Celsius looks like in the past and I also wanted to play with the snow and luckily, I did both. I believe that the Omani weather is less dangerous/risky than the Canadian weather which is a very big advantage. I also believe that the hot weather provides more entertainment for the young Omani's who love to ride camels and race in the desert with their Jeeps.
Canadian Weather:
This is the weather that the majority of my Omani friends are yet to experience. With summers that are around 18 degrees Celsius and winters that reach up to -47 degrees Celsius, the Canadian weather is truly a complete change from the Omani weather. I personally do not mind the cold that that much. Everyone in Canada wears freezing conditions designed jackets and the key to not freezing is to add as many layers of clothing as desired. Yes! Canadian weather is survivable. Driving is more difficult due to the snow and frost in Canada and the chances of slipping while walking are also high. I just want to end it on a warning that building a snowman is not as easy as it seems. Sorry for the bad news
Final Verdict:
I personally enjoyed both weather conditions as they both have their advantages and disadvantages. I would personally choose to live in the Canadian weather rather than the Omani weather. I believe that even though the Canadian weather might be slightly more dangerous, you would never get the uncomfortable feeling that accompanies the hot weather. There is always a solution of more clothing layers, but there is no solution to heat. If a person wants to leave their house in Oman they have to experience all the sweat and discomfort but in Canada they can just add more layers of clothing.
As for the outdoor entertainment, the Omani Jeeps and camel racing will be substituted for skiing and snow activities which I personally love.
