This was my very first overnight camping experience and I have to say that it was really different from what I expected.
Setting up the tents was the first thing that we did upon arrival to the camping site. While I did have a tent assembly training session earlier, I have to admit that I was partially lost in the process. I did not remember the first step, and so I asked one of my peers to help me with this. This whole process was challenging as I was trying to set up my sleeping place and learn at the same time, but I am glad that I went through such experience. I really saw the value of working collaboratively in this scenario. Setting up a tent is a two man process, and I am really glad that we all helped each other as a group. We all learned something new in this process, and have also developed our communicational skills.
Moving on, the next activity was the exhausting hike. I have hiked before in my life, but I have never ever undertaken a challenge as big as a seven hour hike up and down a mountain. I am used to walking on a flat trail but this was the complete opposite. We had to go all the way up a mountain and then come back down. This was an exhausting process, but was also valuable in the sense that it provided me with more insight about myself and my personality. I learned that I have a resilient background and personality. Even when I was extremely exhausted in the hike, I always kept walking and walking without any complaints. There were times when I really felt that I made a mistake by joining this trip, but my resilient background changed my perspective, making me believe that I should tackle and overcome any new challenges that are presented to me. I have really found the trip to be tiring, but if I ever get a similar opportunity, I will definitely go again in order to face new challenges, and increase my fitness levels.
I did also realize that my fitness level was lacking, but I am working hard these days on it. I am currently in the competitive football club and I also play football outside the club hours. Those activities will definitely get me into a better shape in the long run.
Overall, my first ever camping trip was really interesting. I never mentioned the beauty of Lake Nozoriko, or how amusing it was to sleep in a tent, but I am really really glad that I have experienced such thing.
If I could sum up my first camping experience in one sentence, I would say that it was demanding, challenging, but ultimately worthwhile.
