The Functions of Your Chrome Browser

While you are able to use many GApps functions in other browsers, such as Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Safari (for now), the Chrome browser holds the operating system for all Google tools and provides you with the best functionality and power for your web-based apps.

Chrome has many wonderful built-in features which may be accessed by clicking on the "hot dog" menu.

Chrome can do so much, in fact, that we have dedicated an entire module to its use in this course.

  • Right-click on links to open in a new tab (or just hold down the Ctrl key when you click)
  • Click-and-drag a tab away from the top to view it in a new window or drag a tab across the top of the window to change tab order
  • Right-click on a tab and select "Pin tab" or one of the other options in the menu
  • Reopen the last tab you closed by using Ctrl+Shift+T
  • Ctrl+Shift+V to paste text without formatting in Chrome (if you're copying part of a webpage, for instance)
  • For more keyboard shortcuts, click HERE
  • Use the Omnibox (URL address field) to search Google without opening a new tab, or use the Omnibox as a calculator
  • Print to Google Drive - change your printer option to "Save to Google Drive" when printing from Chrome to "print" a PDF to your Drive
  • Zoom in or out on any page in Chrome by holding down Ctrl and using your mouse wheel or +/- buttons
  • Use Ctrl+f to open a search bar in the top right corner. Type in any word(s) to search the entire web page for specific content.
